Contract Description

As part of the new Barton Farm housing development to build 2,000 new homes at Winchester in Hampshire Les Searle secured the earthworks contract for the principal site at the southern end of the development. Works commenced on the project with topsoil strip over the 19-hectare site.

With complete responsibility for setting out and level control, GPS dozers were used extensively to ensure tolerances were achieved for 165,000m3 of cut and chalk engineered fill. Material testing and compaction compliance also included within the Les Searle earthworks package and verified by independent UKAS on site technician. Including the excavation of a large attenuation pond in total over 240,000m3 was moved in under 10 weeks delivering the project 2 weeks ahead of programme.

The main excavation team consisted two 50t excavators and 40t and 50t articulated dumptrucks, GPS D6 & D8 dozers and self-propelled rollers.
